COLLEGE OF CHEST PHYSICIANS
CCP Vision: The CCP is the global leader in providing education in cardiopulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine to optimize health and advance patient care.
CCP Mission: To promote the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of chest diseases through education, communication, and research.
The ACCP has always been in the forefront of cardiopulmonary medicine. In the early years, the main focus of the College was to treat and prevent tuberculosis. As the battle against tuberculosis was won, the ACCP broadened its focus to include the treatment and preventions of all diseases of the chest. The ACCP was one of the first medical organizations to recognize the dangers of cigarette smoking and was instrumental in helping pass the legislation requiring the printing of the Surgeon General's warning on cigarette packages. Later, the College successfully affected the passage of legislature banning smoking on airplanes.
In the early years, the CCP began publishing CHEST to disseminate knowledge relating to chest diseases. Still published today, CHEST is considered the leading cardiopulmonary journal and is an essential resource to medical professionals wanting to stay updated in cardiopulmonary and critical care medicine.
The College's efforts are focused on achieving its mission to promote the prevention and treatment of diseases of the chest through leadership, education, research, and communication
Today, the college has diversified in to all fields of Medical Sciences.
